Rest in Peace Grandma

Got back again from Michigan. My Mother died and we attended the funeral. Here is a lovely piece my niece wrote in her honor.

Rest in Peace Grandma

My beloved grandmother died today (12:14 am) after a long bout with several illnesses.
She was surrounded by loved ones (some in physical presence, some in spirit) and was considered to be the matriarch of our family, one never to be forgotten.

She was a lover of Bill (my grandpa), her 4 kids, 11 grandkids, more than a dozen grandchildren, and a few great-grandchildren … and anyone else who passed through
her field of vision and into her heart. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading anything she could get her hands on, sewing (especially clothes and quilts), canning foods and cooking for the family, as well as traveling in the RV with my grandpa (and whichever kids wanted to join in on the trips).

Although she never earned the degree, she always wanted to be a teacher (just like her mother) … and schooled all those who came into her path. I learned to enjoy the beauty of language from her (”look it up if you don’t know what it means … then
it will always be yours!”) … and came to understand how “smart people are never bored” … along with many other pieces of wisdom I will carry til my dying day.

She was always there for anyone who needed anything and more than willingly gave her life to make those she loved happy and content. In many ways it was up to her standard that we all lived … trying to “make grandma proud.”

I am thankful for the opportunity to have spent the last month of her life here at the family farm in Michigan giving her the best care I could … as she truly deserved it. She was loved in life and will be missed in death.

Rest in peace, Grandma. I know you’re dancing to big band music in a field of wild roses with a smile of love on your face and in your heart, and that’s the way I’ll always remember you. Thank you for all you did, for all you were, and for everything in between. I send my eternal love to be with you always.

Melissa (Missy)
