Thanks to Volunteer Researcher

Friday, March 10th, 2006

I got the v. and p. numbers in the L’s up to Li. Also put these obits in cemetery #21: Katherine Maurer, Elizabeth Niederprum, Mary Platten, Jerome Rosinsky Theresia Schaller, Margaret Schnell, Anna Wesling. I also want to thank the researcher who volunteered to type up the obits I have so I can get them online faster.

Trouble with L marriages

Friday, March 10th, 2006

Finished up the marriage P files as much as possible. Started the L’s and they are giving me a fit. Names like La Fontain were on the index in the F’s and some of the L’s should be in the S’s. The L’s and S’s looked alike many times in the writing..not to mention the u and n are quite often not right as are the o and a.

Help wanted…

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

I’m half way through the Pi page putting in v. and p. numbers. With luck I’ll get the P pages done tomorrow. I’ve found there are a lot of people from volume 4 missing from the county index. It looks like it has been copied over at some time in the past because the handwriting is the same for v. 4 on all the pages. I have some obits that were sent to me as photos. Is there anyone who would like to transcribe them for me? It can all be done through email.

I am cleaning up my inbox today. I have lots of tibits sent in by researchers that I don’t always get online in a timely manner. I apologize for the delay in getting these online:

(126.html) Added family tree of the Swenson family linked from the marriage section. Added Leonard Burial information to cemetery 7. Added Thayer Family information to the Family section, added artcicle regarding the Industrial School for Boys. Added golden wedding announcement for Weaver. Added Hollahan and Copp weddings.

Added probate notices to the site for: Edwards, Evans, Hart, Hipp, Holden, Paul, Russell, Smith, Trost, Turner. Until I figure out where to put them, I have made a new section for the probate notices.

Wisconsin pre-1907 births Online

Sunday, March 5th, 2006

The Wisconsin Historical Society has just made available an index to Wisconsin pre-1907 births at www.wisconsinhistory.org/vitalrecords.

It was made by digitizing the 1970’s microfiche index (with which some of you’re probably familiar) and then expanding it with tens of thousands of delayed births. The Schoenleber Foundation of Milwaukee generously covered most of the conversion costs, and the Wisconsin State Genealogical Society graciously let us include their delayed birth records index. The result is free public access to more than 1,000,000 Wisconsin births. As you’ll see, you can search in a variety of ways. When you find someone for whom you want a birth certificate, you can order hard copy from us online or use the results to locate the film yourself.

They plan to add pre-1907 death and marriage indexes in the next few months, creating a comprehensive vital records index that will be entirely free and publicly searchable.

V and P numbers on Marriages

Saturday, March 4th, 2006

Got the volume and page numbers in for the Sa file finshed and up to Pe in the P’s can’t see straight anymore today so I have to quit on them until tomorrow. I’m going to jump randomly when I finish a page so I can hopefully help as many researchers as I can. If I go straight through the alphabet the ones researching names that fall toward the end of the alphabet will have a long wait.

The spelling on the microfiche marriages is so bad I have to look up both the bride and groom to verify the spelling and the dates. That’s what takes so long. Sure would be great to have a laptop so I could sit in a more comfortable chair and in the summer work outside on my files.
