William George Bruce born in Milwaukee in 1856, wrote a number of histories of the city, including History of Milwaukee: City and County, 1922, with biographies of city leaders in many fields of endeavor. In his 1937 memoir, he tells anecdotes about his family and about the many Milwaukee people he met in his multifaceted career as a journalist, publisher and leader in public service roles.
